As a pet owner, sometimes I like to imagine that my pets think fondly of me, maybe they're even grateful to get to live with someone that dotes on them the way I do. At the moment, I have: three dogs, two ducks, a bunny, and a hedgehog (I'm not counting the snake that we're babysitting for my son's biology teacher this summer or the fluctuating population of fish in the tank in my daughter's room). It's a question I asked myself not just as an author, but as a pet lover too. As you can guess, Perfected was no exception. The idea for every book I've ever written had its genesis in those two words. They've been known to excite my imagination into such wild fits of creativity that I can't calm down until the plots for entire books have been scratched down in my notebook. They only consist of six letters, but those two little words pack quite a punch. Kate: What if … those might be my favorite two words in the English language. Kate Jarvik Birch, author of Perfected, joins HEA to discuss the question "what if humans were pets?"
